About Your Childbirth Instructor
Rae Andrews, RN, CNM, MS is a certified nurse-midwife specializing in the care of essentially healthy women. She is available for consultation, evaluation, and management of low-risk pregnancies and birth and in the general care of women throughout the life cycle with routine GYN and family planning services.
Rae Andrews is a native Texan. She received her bachelor of science nursing degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She has a certificate in nurse-midwifery from Baylor College of Medicine. Ms. Andrews received her master of science degree from Texas Woman's University majoring in maternal-child nursing and a minor in education. She is member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), the Consortium of Texas Nurse-Midwives (CTCNM), and an educational member of the American College of Obstetricians/Gynecologists (ACOG).
Ms. Andrews has served in a variety of maternal-child nursing and midwifery positions. She was the Director of a free standing birth center for over nine years here in Houston.
Ms. Andrews has served as head nurse of a progressive Labor/Delivery and Postpartum units at a west side Houston hospital. She worked with MacGregor Medical as a staff nurse-midwife performing deliveries at Hermann Hospital. For several years, Ms. Andrews served as a part of the nurse-midwifery faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and had privileges at St. Luke's, Methodist, and Ben Taub hospitals taking care of both private and clinic patients. She was also a faculty instructor in Baylor's nurse-midwifery education program. Ms. Andrews has been a childbirth instructor in Houston since 1977. Since the closure of her Birth Center, Ms. Andrews has been primarily working with a private physician's office providing prenatal, postpartum, GYN, and family planning to patients. She also has developed prenatal practice guidelines for some different institutions and does occasional legal casework review. Ms. Andrews continues to maintain a small private practice caseload of select clients providing prenatal, birth, postpartum, GYN and family planning care - mainly for her returning clientele.
Rae Andrews lives in Houston with her husband, David and has three children. Her oldest son was born in one of the first out-of-hospital bi
rth centers in the country. She has had natural childbirths for all three of her children. Her last child was delivered with a certified nurse-midwife.
Rae Andrews, CNM strives to provide state of the art nurse-midwifery care with special attention to individual patient needs and an emphasis on patient counseling and education.
